      Crisis Assistance Program

Past Due Rent/Mortgage
Barnabas clients are required to provide a rental lease agreement when requesting assistance for rental payments. Landlords will be contacted in order to verify information regarding delinquency. Assistance will not be paid for clients who reside in a landlord’s primary dwelling or for temporary housing situations. Barnabas funds cannot be used for rental deposits. An agency landlord statement is provided to clients and must be completed and returned to Barnabas for any consideration of rental payment assistance.

New Housing
Clients are provided a New Housing/Shelter Confirmation form that must be completed and returned to Barnabas when being considered for assistance with new housing rent. This assistance applies to first month’s rent only. Clients’ rental deposit and utility deposits must be paid in full before Barnabas can commit funds toward rent. Agency funds cannot be applied toward rental deposits.

Utilities
Clients are first referred to other local agencies with public funding for assistance with delinquent utility payments. In the event those agencies are unable to assist, Barnabas can assess your needs. Clients are required to provide a past due notice from the utility company, along with a copy of their current rental agreement. Barnabas does not pay utility deposits or late fees on utility bills.

Prescriptions
Assistance with paying for prescriptions is only done on an emergency basis. Barnabas never assists with paying for controlled substances such as chronic mood altering or pain medications.

Food
Pantry services are available for those in a food crisis. Clients may go directly to the food pantry entrance and request emergency food. Pantry staff will assist Nassau County clients with emergency food once every 30 days. In addition, mobile food pantry deliveries are made on a rotating basis throughout Nassau County. Clients can call 261-7000 for a schedule of delivery dates.

Clothing/Necessary Furnishings
Referrals to the Barnabas “New To You” resale store are available for qualifying clients.

Referrals
Barnabas staff can assist with referrals to other agencies or programs when appropriate.

Budgeting - Financial Management
Clients in need of budgeting or financial management assistance can call for an appointment during Barnabas open hours.
