*** Barnabas invited everyone for wine tasting, food, music and fun at Cafe Karibo. This sold out event was sponsored by VyStar Credit Union. *** Barnabas staff and volunteers came together as the recipients of the Fernandina Beach Post Office Food Drive, accepting over 19,000 lbs. of food donated by local residents! Everyone worked incredibly hard as a team to sort the donated items and prepare them for delivery to our Barnabas Pantry. A special thanks is deserved for the Post Office for choosing Barnabas again as the recipient for the food drive and to Steve Kelly of Kelly Pest Control for allowing Barnabas to use his facilities. *** Jan. - April, 2010 Barnabas and its designates have been recognized several times in the last few months and we are honored! In January, Susan Holden-Dodge, our out-going Executive Director, was awarded the Community Service Award from the Fernandina Beach Police Department at their annual Awards Banquet. In February, Barnabas was the recipient of the Regional Quality of Life Award at the 9th Annual Northeast Florida Elected Official Reception and Leadership awards. Most recently, Dave Bullen, recipient of the 2010 Chaplain Roland Knight Volunteer of the Year award, was named the Volunteer of the Year for Fernandina Beach as well by the Nassau County Volunteer Center. We are proud of our daily efforts and so thankful to have amazing staff and volunteers who bring energy and commitment to their work at Barnabas! *** March 20, 2010 Barnabas New to You shoppers came in droves to the annual Spring Fling sale. New to You received a huge make-over in order to display the sunny seasonal items discounted for the sale. The Spring Fling and Winter Wonderland sales are always looked forward to by avid shoppers - some of which come all the way from Georgia to attend the event! Thank you to everyone who came out and weathered the crowds in order to support Barnabas. The sale raised over $12,000 for Barnabas programs! *** March 12, 2010 Attendees were delighted by an array of fashions and accessories from the Gauzeway, Patchingtons and Lia Sophia while they enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared by Good to Go catering. The fashion show, silent auction and raffle raised a grand total of $17,000 for the Barnabas programs! Thank you to all who made this event possible whether it be through items donated to our Silent Auction, time donated before and during the event or money and in-kind items donated to our cause! We especially want to thank our Silver sponsors - First Coast Community Bank, the Fernandina Beach Newsleader and Vystar; our Crystal sponsor - Bushong Insurance Associates; and our Fashion Show sponsors - Anonymous, Ed's Comfort Solutions, First Federal Bank of Florida, First National Bank, Florida Public Utilities & Trim All Lawn Services, Inc. Thank you!!! *** January 7, 2010 Members of the Barnabas staff and Board of Director's reported to an audience of donors and volunteers on the previous year's financial and program outcomes and the outlook for Barnabas in 2010. Susan Holden-Dodge, the Executive Director of Barnabas, also had the priviledge of recognizing some of Barnabas' most outstanding volunteers. Those recognized were: Bob Powell, Ken Ford, Vivian DeCanio, Chuck Russo, Bob Green, Larry Reader and Dr. Tom Washburn. Dave Bullen was recognized as the 2010 Chaplain Roland Knight Volunteer of the Year. Dave is an active volunteer in the Pantry and assists in Chaplain's Fund projects including: building ramps, fixing pipes, etc. He would say he comes when he is called. *** Barnabas supporters from miles around came out for the annual Winter Wonderland Sale at New to You. Carol Reader, New to You's manager, holds holiday and other special items specifically for this sale. Volunteers were witness to many people finding special treasures for the holidays. One Barnabas client's Christmas wish was filled when he found two brand-name shirts that he had wanted, but could not afford, from a catalog. He got the two shirts for $5! The event was a great success and raised over $12,000 to support Barnabas services. *** November 2, 2009 The Barnabas Connection, in conjuction with the Barnabas Center, held an appreciation reception for Barnabas volunteers at the New to You store. Attendees enjoyed a spread of cheese and crackers accompanied by wine. The volunteers of the Barnabas Center are an integral part of the programs we offer and are valued every single day even though we only get to appreciate them at an event once a year. *** September 26, 2009 Attendees of the Andiamo Italian Street festival enjoyed live music provided by Dr. Diana Twiggs, Jeanie Scheff and Joey Daddario as well as delicious Italian-themed food prepared by local master, Chef William Castleberry. The Barnabas Center would like to thank everyone who attended the event as well as sponsors to the event including St. Peter's Episcopal Church, First Presbyterian Church, Memorial United Methodist Church, Beech Street Grill and Mike Taylor of Island BBQ. |
